[edit] Eric Wyler's Proposal
I'll be doing http://oldejudgemansion.com
[edit] Ryan Bobrowski's Proposal
I previously said that my proposal was for 'the broken mold,' which is a pottery place, but Dr. J mentioned we should choose something we were interested in, and I can't say that I have a yearning for all things pottery, so I am going to try for Jose Malones (http://www.josemalones.com/) instead - not that Mexican-Irish food is a forte of mine, but I do love food.
[edit] Kevin Kelly's Proposal
I am going to revamp the RPI Rugby Site (http://rugby.union.rpi.edu/intro.htm).
[edit] Matthew Fyffe's Proposal
My proposal will be on the production company, Pop Off Productions. The business currently just has a myspace page (www.myspace.com/popoffproductions). However, my question below still stands for reference.
[edit] Matthew Fyffe Question
Hey guys, So I've been brainstorming for the Websolutions project and while I've had several ideas, I was curious how to approach "clients" about it. Has anyone tried this yet? What is your idea for an approach. It seems bizarre to me to just email/call companies/organizations/professors and say "Hi! I have a school project and would like to make a web site for you! Would you like to consult with me on what you would want on your site? By the way, I might not actually make it, it depends on whether or not my classmates like the idea."
Needless to say, it's leaving me baffled. Let me know what you guys think in terms of methods of approach.
[edit] E. Filipov's Response to Matthew Fyffe
Hey Matt, I myself found it difficult at first to approach a client. However after thinking about it I think I can give you some pointers on how to think about this assignment. I will be now doing my proposal on a café in downtown troy.
Research is key – I found it extremely helpful to concentrate on a single type of establishment and gain a clearer view of what such a website could be. I looked at several café websites and then looked for similar businesses in the Troy area which I thought could significantly benefit from our project.
When you discover prospective clients, approach them with what they might be interested in – FREE website that will get their name out to their audience. After this explain that it is still only a proposal and not completely guaranteed, furthermore that if your proposal is chosen, you will probably have to interview them to get a clearer idea of the business.
Talking to two prospective clients, I found them to be extremely helpful and respectful with the idea. The first business already had a very good website in place, yet still agreed to meet with me if I needed to use them for my project.
As a final note I think you should worry too much about the approach; I think we have a very fair deal on the table and most people will kindly cooperate.
Good Luck with your proposal and I hope these comments are helpful.
[edit] Brian McEvoy's Proposal
I had to email a few places but I managed to get Troy Night Out (http://www.troynightout.org/).
If anyone is having a hard time finding a website to propose, Jose Malones (http://www.josemalones.com/) also agreed.
